Billie Jean voted best dance record

Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean has been voted the greatest dance record of all time.
Zoe Ball revealed that the King of Pop had been awarded the gong, as voted for by Radio 2 listeners, after being shortlisted due to his "musical merit and importance in the narrative of UK dance music".

The legendary track, written by Jackson and co-produced by Quincy Jones, topped the UK charts in 1983 and won two Grammy awards.

Bruce Swedien, the sound engineer for the track, said that Jackson asked for the song to have "the greatest sonic personality that you can possibly put on a track - starting with the drums".

Jackson held off strong competition from Donna Summer’s I Feel Love, which took second place in the poll, whilst James Brown’s Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine took the bronze.

Michael Jackson is currently understood to be working with Akon on a new album, and has been rumoured to be contributing to the forthcoming New Kids On The Block album.
